Fundació Foto Colectania
If you're a fan of photography, make sure you don't miss the Fundació Foto Colectania. It was set up in 2002 and has become one of the leading places in the dissemination of photography in Spain, with one of the biggest collections in the country. Foto Colectania is housed inside a 19th-century building in the heart of the Born district (14 Passeig Picasso), which has been awarded iconic landmark status by Barcelona City Council. This unique venue has a floor space of 500 m2 and has been refurbished by the prestigious architect Jaume Pons and the interior designer Pilar Líbano. This major showcase for the art of photography includes a temporary exhibition gallery, a library, an audiovisual room and the impressive conservation room, which stores the foundation's extensive collection of photographs. Foto Colectania hosts exhibitions, activities and produces publications designed to disseminate photography in every sphere of society and works to generate critical thinking through images and their ability to communicate.
The library has a large collection of books specialising in photography and more than 3,000 works by 80 Catalan, Spanish and Portuguese authors. In 2006, the Fundació Foto Colectania won the ARCO Prize for the Best National Private Collection Initiative. And that's not all: it has also won the prize for the Best Programme of Events and Exhibitions awarded by the Catalan Association of Art Critics (ACCA) in 2017, the Bartolomé Ros Prize awarded at PhotoEspaña for its contribution to the field of photography in 2012 and the Tendencias Prize awarded by the newspaper El Mundo to the consolidated cultural industry (2013).
